The Red Stars were at home to take on Racing Louisville in their 3rd match in 8 days. The match was delayed by over 2 hours due to weather.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm due to the slick pitch. Chicago looked to be more dangerous and spent a lot of time in their final third in the first half hour. Their best chance came off a shot from Vanessa DiBernardo in the 33rd minute. However, 5 minutes later, Louisville scored to make it 1-0.
Early in the second half, Danielle Colaprico picked up her second yellow card, sending her off and leaving Chicago to play with 10 for the remainder of the match. Louisville player and former Red Star, Yuki Nagasato took advantage of the foul and scored off a free kick. Louisville scored once more after another former Red Star, Savannah McCaskill tapped the ball in.
With the game firmly in hand for Racing Louisville, Chicago made some substitutions towards the end of the match.
The Red Stars will be without key players Tierna Davidson, Alyssa Naeher, Julie Ertz, and Casey Krueger as the travel with the U.S. Women’s National Team for the Olympics. Chicago has their next match on July 2 at 6:30 CT against the Washington Spirit.
