Orlando Pride defeated Kansas City 1-0 at Exploria Stadium and continue their best start in club history. 3 consecutive wins, 10 points. Extending their lead at the top of the table.
In the first half, The Pride came on the onslaught with several chances in attack by Leroux, Morgan and Kornieck that had another superb game. Abby Smith had two key saves and stop the Pride from the early lead.
In the 16th minute, there was a corner kick for Orlando, a header from Morgan that touched over the line and gave the Pride the lead. It was a very controversial play and the Kansas’ players complained for no goal. Ref determined it was a goal for Orlando. Despite the goal, Kansas took the initiative to go out on the attack and the Pride’s mid and backline got to work.
In the second half, Kansas pressured the Pride in transition and the mid turned over the ball. Despite that, the Pride kept gaining momentum through Morgan and Leroux. Morgan had her best game with a Pride jersey in my humble opinion. She was unstoppable for that Kansas backline. In the 64th minute, the Pride gets a penalty, Morgan was knocked down in the box by a Kansas defender. Morgan misses the penalty. Despite missing the penalty Orlando kept their momentum for the rest of the game.
The Pride makes another statement in their chase for a championship. Next game will be against the Washington Spirit on June 6th, we have faced them before and have persevered.
