Far from home, at the Titan Stadium, OL Reign made an amazing soccer match, with Latsko, Cook, and Angelina scoring the victory goals in the Challenge Cup. The keeper Tullis-Joyce also made a difference, preventing most of Angel City’s attempts and guaranteeing the 1-3 on the score.
Angel City started holding Laura Harvey’s squad under pressure, trying to fill in the empty spaces on the pitch, connecting some plays with Christen Press and Fulaninha. However, the Reign didn’t get scared, and Fishlock started the play, passing the ball to Rose Lavelle, who found Latsko. Then, she left-footed to open the score at the minute 12, 0-1.
It didn’t take so long to double the advantage. Five minutes later, Angelina ran along the right side and crossed to Alana Cook – the center back didn’t think twice and headed it to the back of the net, 0-2.
The LA team tried to react, but Tullis was there to block and keep everything safe. Things got even worse when Savannah McCaskill received a red card, and City had to keep playing with 10.
During the second half, after a good play by Lavelle, Latsko crossed to Angelina, and the Brazilian player was able to slide to score her first goal wearing the Reign’s jersey, 0-3.
Later on, the home team increased the speed on the right side with Spencer – the number 3 passed to Charley, who crossed to Tyler Lussi. So, she attempted a one-touch shot, letting no chances for Tullis this time, 1-3.
Angel City also had the possession and more chances until the final minutes, but it wasn’t enough to find the equalizer, and the final whistle announced three points for the Tacoma team.
The next game for OL Reign will be against Portland Thorns, on April 2, at 7 PM PT. Angel City will also play against the Thorns, on March 30, at 10 PM ET.
