Colorado Rapids, last place in the Western Conference, came to California to face current MLS Cup Champions LAFC at BMO Stadium. The final result had four goals in favor of the black and gold, a couple of them called back, and a new comer Cristian Olivera scoring for the first time.
LAFC’s starting XI gad John McCarthy in goal, Giorgio Chiellini and Aaron Long on defense; Sergi Palencia and Rayan Hollingshead on the wings; Ilie Sanchez, Ilie Sanchez, Matheus Bogusz and Timotty Tilman in the midfield. The front three had newcomer Mario Gonzalez as a number 9, and Designed Players Denis Bouanga and Carlos Vela behind him.
Mario Gonzalez had a couple of chances that went straight to the goalkeeper. It was Matheus Bougusz who placed the ball in the net in the 19th minute after a good assist by Carlos Vela. The first-ever signed player could not be out of the score. After an assist from Ilie Sanchez, Vela left-footed the ball to place the second goal. Rayan Hollingshead made a great run from the left wing to place the ball on the net, at the 36th minute. Halftime the Black and Gold had a deserved advantage
Instead of taking their foot on the gas, the Black and Gold continued threatening their opponent’s goal. Kelyn Acosta and Filip Kristov came to bring balance to the midfield. The most efficient substitute player was Uruguayan newcomer Cristian Olivera. After having a clear chance with a shot on a rebound, the Uruguayan striker collaborated with a fourth goal giving the final result of 4-0.
Colorado had a timid 15-minute reaction, but John McCarthy responded with efficiency with good saves.
LAFC travels to North Carolina to play against Charlotte next Saturday: a five-hour trip, three hours of difference, and artificial grass.
