best in the West and the best in the East, the first and third place for the Supporters Shield race. With such a high level of expectations, LAFC and Philadelphia Union step at the Banc looking to remain in the top spot of their respective conferences. The Black and Gold came after a 3-0 victory versus Minnesota United. Philly came to Cali after a 1-1 draw against Nashville inaugurating EODIS Park.

With numerous defensive absences, the Black and Gold step to the field as follows: Maxime Crepeau goal, Franco Escobar and Diego Palacios in the wings, Mamadou Fall and Sebastian Ibeagha on defense, Ilie Sanchez, Kelyn Acosta and Jose Cifuentes in midfield. The trio in front were “Mahala” Opoku, Cristian Arango, and Carlos Vela.

The Black and Gold have the clearer chances and most of the ball possession; however, it was the Union who was efficient in front of the goal. In the 9th minute, Kai Wagner placed a ball in the area, which went in front of both LAFC defenders. Daniel Gadzga was at the right place to put the first goal for the visitors.

The second half brought the sharpness to the home team. An assist by Jose Cifuentes was well-finished by “Mahala” Opoku with a left shot. The Union responded with a great left shot from Julian Carranza. After that, LAFC brought their powerful subs. Ilie Sanchez was out leaving Latif Blessing in the midfield, Francisco Ginella did the same, and Rayan Hollingshead took Diego Palacios’ place. “Mahala” Opoku was replaced by Danny Musovski. And thus, came LAFC’s tie in a rebound by Franco Escobar. After Union’s time-wasting and some yellow cards, this intense match ended with a 2-2 draw.

LAFC travels to Colorado to play against the Rapids. The Union returns to Subaru Park where they will host New York Red Bulls.
