The Houston Dynamo returned home from a two-to-one road loss in Portland. Hosting new expansion side Charlotte FC on a very hot and humid night in Houston.
The visitors gained the lead in the 28th minute from a low driven pass inside the box to Karol Swiderski however the pass was intercepted by charging Dynamo midfielder Matias Vera who was eager to prevent the pass in-which the ball hit it foot causing the ball to go into the back of the net for an own goal making it 1-0.
Charlotte FC made two game changing substitutions in their attack bringing in former Austin FC forward McKinze Gaines, and former Colorado Rapids forward Andre Shinyashiki making it difficult for the home side to defend, in the 74th minute Brandt Bronico found Shinyashiki out wide who then sprinted his way into the box and maneuvers between two Dynamo defenders and unleashing a low driven shot in the bottom right corner of goal beating Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark.
However, the homeside got on the scoresheet in the 84th minute when Darwin Quintero played a cheeky over the top chip pass to Dynamo Forward Fafa Picault who slotted the ball between Charlotte FC goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina legs, although initially the goal was overturned for an offiside position from the Dynamo attacker referee Jair Marrufo went to the video assistant monitor and overruled the initial call and counted the goal valid, making it 2-1. However it was too late for the homeside to salvage a point after a terrible and worrisome performance at home.
The Houston Dynamo return to action as they host in-state rivals FC Dallas who tied 1-1 at home against Inter Miami FC. The Dynamo are expecting a sellout crowd for the debut of newly signed designated player Hector Herrera. The Dynamo take on FC Dallas at PNC Stadium Saturday night at 7:30pm CT.
