Once the final whistle blew on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Complex, boos, and chats rained down from the frustrated fans who watched the LA Galaxy fall short yet again to one of the newest teams in MLS Charlotte FC, 1-0. Beating LAFC’s reserve 2-0 during the week was not enough serotonin for them to apply it in regular play. Then having their most passionate player sent off, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández five minutes earlier, it’s safe to say the Galaxy has hit rock bottom.

A handful of Supporters, the “ACB” Angel City Brigade chanted “We want better” as the players and head coach/sporting director Greg Vanney went over to have a “conversation” with the supporter’s group. What was heard clearly was “You do deserve better, we will give you better” when clearly they’ve only done well against two reserve teams.

“They expect more. They want more from the group. … We don’t need to go into specifics. Yes, we need to improve upon our performance today and secure the result. They want the same thing. It wasn’t heated or anything that was more. Again, we’re all on the same team. We’re all trying to achieve those things.”Vanney said after the match.

The defeat was the Galaxy’s third straight going scoreless in league play and undoes any positivity remaining from a U.S. Open Cup, LA (2W-9L-3D) is last in the league with nine points from 14 matches.

They’re right,” midfielder Mark Delgado said of the fans. “Every time we step on the field, we have to be ready. Whatever that is. Whatever we’re doing away from training, away from the game, we have to get ourselves ready. This is our job. If you’re not fully focused then why are you doing this?”

“The Galaxy have struggled to stick to Vanney’s game plan across 90 minutes. The request is to play simple.” Delgado said the team’s actions on the field sometimes say otherwise.

“It’s a simple game. You’ve just got to play the game simple,” Delgado also added. “There will be moments for creativity and that will happen, but we’ve just got to be patient and a lot of times we’re not patient. So they’re right. The fans are right. We need to be better.”

The next opportunity for LA  is Wednesday when the Galaxy head to America First Field to meet Real Salt Lake. LA is 0-5-2 on the road this season. Of course, their first three points on the road would settle down the frustrated fans who demand more from the league’s most honored club. Galaxy will also meet Real Salt Lake in the US Open Cup round the following week, June 7 also away. We are unsure if the same team will play against them in the cup.
