BY THE NUMBERS
4: FC Cincinnati is now (or soon to be) one of 4 teams left in the US Open Cup. The Orange and Blue have not made a run to the semifinal round of the tournament since their 2017 run.
12: FC Cincinnati have won their first 12 competitions at home. That ties the MLS record held by San Jose in the 2002 season.
30: Tuesday’s win marks Pat Noonan’s 30th win with the Orange and Blue across all competitions.
MOTM: Álvaro Barreal (CIN)
Sure. The first goal looked offside. It should have been called off. If VAR were implemented in US Open Cup play, it most likely wouldn’t have counted. Even then, if that goal didn’t count, FC Cincinnati’s Álvaro Barreal would still have two goal contributions, just like the last time these two teams met.
Barreal’s assist came late, as his out-swinging corner found the head of Santi Arias and put Cincinnati up 3-1. But it’s his assist that’s a possible Puskas winner – the greatest goal of the season by any MLS side so far. Barreal took Acosta’s corner on the fly and screamed it into the back of the net.
Let’s not forget – Barreal did not start. He subbed into the match in the 60th minute, so he managed to do all of this in just 30 minutes of play.
