BY THE NUMBERS

1: FC Cincinnati won against NYCFC for the first time in club history. In 8 previous matchups, NYCFC was 6-2-0… and the two times Cincinnati and NYCFC played last season, they drew.

2: FC Cincinnati moves on to the Round of 16 for the second time in club history. With winning this tournament earning you a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League, it looks like Noonan and FC Cincinnati are focusing on this tournament more than in past seasons.

7: Brandon Vazquez scored his 7th goal in US Open Cup play all time. 2 in 2017, 4 in 2019, and now 1 in 2023.

8: 8-0-0 at TQL Stadium in 2023 for the Orange and Blue – FC Cincinnati has gotten the maximum amount of points at home to start the season in their 6 MLS and 2 US Open Cup matches.

MOTM: Yuya Kubo (CIN)

Yes, Vazquez scored the lone goal – and that’s huge! But, Kubo had played a total of 23 minutes (19 against New England, 1 against Louisville, and 3 against DC) before today’s start – and he put in an incredible 67 minutes. Kubo went 22/26 on passes, 100% in shot accuracy, 100% successful dribbles, and 100% accurate long balls.

If today tested some of Cincinnati’s depth, Kubo came out as a great option in the attack. He, alongside another solid shift by Pinto, was my highlight for sure.
