By The Numbers

2: All three of Charlotte FC/FC Cincinnati matches have ended with at least one team scoring exactly 2 goals. The two sides exchanged 2-0 wins for their home fixtures last season, and Saturday’s 2-2 draw continues the two Queen Cities’ love for scoring goals in pairs.

3: Up the Golden Boot Race goes Luciano Acosta – now tied for third in goals in MLS with 10 on the 2023 campaign.

3 (Again): 3 straight winless for FC Cincinnati is their longest winless streak of the 2023 season.

3 (AGAIN): Saturday marks the third time FC Cincinnati conceded the first goal of a match. The other two times resulted in Cincinnati’s only two losses of the season (5-1 at St. Louis, 3-0 at DC).

11: The curse of the turf! FC Cincinnati’s winless streak on artificial turf extends to 11 matches.

100: Alvaro Barreal recorded his 100th MLS appearance on Saturday (3rd in club history).

MOTM: Alvaro Barreal (CIN)

I’m sure MLS will be quick to jump on Acosta as the MOTM from FC Cincinnati’s side – and with a goal and assist that’s fair (EDIT: Acosta is a candidate for MLS Man of the Matchday (MOTM, but not to be confused with this Man of the Match. phew.). But for anyone who watched the match, it was Barreal who drew the PK for Acosta’s goal, and more of a ridiculous finish by Barreal to credit Acosta with an assist. It’s also worth noting that Barreal did all this while not drawing a yellow card, granting him a good behavior incentive. Massive performance for Barreal, who became the third player in FC Cincinnati history to record 100 MLS appearances on Saturday.
