Key Storylines:
- FC Cincinnati’s Yerson Mosquera returned to training for the first time since his international call-up with Colombia on Friday, the same day FC Cincinnati officially announced the extension of Mosquera’s loan from Wolverhampton through the 2023 season. The last match he played for FC Cincinnati was against Chicago on June 3rd. Visa issues caused a delay in his return to Cincinnati, but his return back to the matchday roster will be a big one. FC Cincinnati are already out one center-back in MLS All-Star Matt Miazga (USMNT), so getting one of the premiere center-backs in MLS will be huge for the Orange and Blue as they take on one of the best Eastern Conference opponents on Saturday.
- #10 Matchup: Two of the best CAMs in all of MLS will be going at it at TQL Stadium. MLS All-Star Luciano Acosta for FC Cincinnati and All-Star snub Carles Gil for New England. Combined, they’ve had 22 goal contributions across 36 matches this season, and both are certainly key players heading into Saturday’s match.
- Alvaro Barreal vs Brandon Bye: A matchup that was crucial in the earlier fixture this season between these two clubs, Barreal and Bye both assisted their team’s lone goals in a 1-1 draw in Foxborough this April. Barreal plays as a Left Wingback (LWB) for FC Cincinnati, playing less defensively as your traditional fullback and pushing higher up the pitch, and more involved offensively. Bye is your more traditional right back, but he’s arguably one of the most athletic guys at his position and constantly causes a threat offensively.
- FC Cincinnati has announced that TQL Stadium is officially sold out – 25,513 fans will be in attendance for the 9th time in just 11 MLS matches this season. Other things happening in the 513? The Cincinnati Reds, who have one of the most exciting young cores in all of MLB led by the likes of Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain, host a 3 game series against the San Diego Padres at home. With the Reds currently tied for first in the Central heading into the series, expect a big turnout at GABP this weekend. Noel Gallagher is playing at the Riverbend on Saturday night… and the Eras tour is on Friday and Saturday nights at Paycor Stadium. Yes, Taylor Swift is coming to Cincinnati. Downtown Cincinnati will be packed. OTR will be packed. All three sports stadiums will be PACKED. Aside from the horrific parking issues that are bound to arise on Saturday – this is an exciting weekend to be in Cincinnati.
Key Player: Luciano Acosta (CIN)
Luciano Acosta once again becomes the key player for FC Cincinnati as they look to continue their perfect form at TQL Stadium this season. Acosta has scored in 5 straight MLS matches at TQL Stadium, and in those 5 matches, he has 8 goal contributions. That’s been a key part of FC Cincinnati’s success at home, and they’ll look to their captain to continue his hot streak to keep the team’s perfect run going.
