- June 19, 2021: FC Cincinnati 0 – Colorado Rapids 2 (Rubio 21′, Lewis 72′)
The Rapids have had… a rather poor stretch of form as of late. They’ve lost 3 straight in MLS and were knocked out by RSL midweek at home in the US Open Cup. Even then, Colorado is just four points out of a potential playoff spot thanks to MLS expanding playoffs this past offseason. Colorado doesn’t have a clear-cut goalscorer, with 3 players (Cabral, Abubakar, Barrios) all tied for the team lead for goals with 2. They sit bottom of the league in both goals per match (23rd, 0.9) and a goal conceded (22nd, 1.5) – so Cincy comes into this weekend’s matchup as heavy favorites.
Key Player: Luciano Acosta (CIN)
All right. Acosta’s last few matches have been nothing short of brilliant, with four goals and an assist over 3 matches. Oh, and that doesn’t include the third goal against Columbus that he probably deserved more credit for. Regardless, we’re seeing a solid stretch of performances by the captain. Colorado hasn’t been the best this season, so another strong performance by Acosta should be more than enough offensively.
