FC Cincinnati plays host to New York City FC for the fourth round of the US Open Cup on Wednesday. FC Cincinnati has a bye week in MLS play this upcoming weekend, so we’ll see who gets the starting nod on Wednesday – expect a lineup with more starters.

- September 7, 2022: NYCFC 1 (41′ Pereira) – FC Cincinnati 1 (22′ Martins (OG))
Pat Noonan and FC Cincinnati have spoken about the significance of the US Open Cup – not just the significance of the tournament in the club’s history, but also its significance with the added incentive of qualification into the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.
FC Cincinnati has not beaten NYCFC in the club’s history, with a 0-6-2 record in MLS league play. They’ll have a chance to change that as one side must come out victorious in a US Open Cup match. FC Cincinnati are currently on perfect home at home, winning 7 out of 7 matches including their third-round matchup against USL side Louisville City FC.
The goalscorer from that match, Arquimides Ordóñez, is unavailable as he’s reporting for international duty, prepping for the U20 World Cup that kicks off later this month. That said, FC Cincinnati doesn’t have a match this weekend and won’t have another match until the following Wednesday against Montreal – meaning FC Cincinnati may allow their starters and key players to play more on Wednesday in order to secure a spot in the next round.
