FC Cincinnati Earn a Point in Foxborough and Head Home to Start a Four Game Homestand

Published by Kenta Hagiwara, 2 years ago

April 29, 2023 (Foxborough, MA) – FC Cincinnati and the New England Revolution draw 1-1 on a rainy evening in Foxborough. An injury to Dylan Borrero early was a scary one, with what seemed like his leg getting caught in the turf. Borrero was stretchered off the field.

Cincinnati and New England exchanged goals in the first half and the teams headed to the locker room tied at 1 goal a piece. In the second half, both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities, including a potential PK call that went to a VAR review but no PK was given. When asked, MLS Season Pass and CBS Soccer Rules Analyst Christina Unkel responded:

BY THE NUMBERS

2: Yerson Mosquera’s goal is the second of the season for the Colombian defender.

3: Yuya Kubo’s appearance for FC Cincinnati on Saturday was his first since the Matchday 3 fixture between the Orange and Blue and Seattle.

5: New England Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic became the fastest player in MLS history to save 5 PKs, doing it in 31 matches.

27: Yerson Mosquera leads the MLS with 27 interceptions after recording 5 in Saturday’s match.

MOTM: Yerson Mosquera

Mosquera scored the lone goal for Cincinnati on Saturday, the second of the season, and overall a solid performance. 100% on tackles won, 4 clearances, 12 recoveries, 4 interceptions, and 6 duels won. Playing in the rain and turf, Mosquera was quite dominant defensively.

The next step forward for Mosquera would be if can be more consistent on his long balls and passes in general. 58% pass accuracy and 8% long ball accuracy doesn’t really cut it. If you ignore those stats, he had a fantastic match, but it’s good to have a MOTM performance and still have areas to improve.

Mosquera has been the most consistent defender for the Orange and Blue this season and I would be very shocked if FC Cincinnati does not extend Mosquera’s loan from Wolves for the remainder of the season.

Up Next

FC Cincinnati now has 4 straight home matches to start the month of May. Matchdays 11-13 in the MLS Regular Season are all at TQL Stadium, as the Orange and Blue host DC United, Montreal, and Columbus for another edition of the Hell is Real derby (5/6, 17, 20). FC Cincinnati also hosts NYCFC for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Round of 32 on 5/17.
