The Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers resumed the second half of their initially postponed match due to weather last night on Wednesday, July 12th. Both teams played 45 minutes of high urgency, aggressive nature, and energetic football in hopes to leave DICK’s Sporting Goods Park with three points. Although a match that saw the Colorado Rapids attack a lot with lots of set-pieces plays and a Portland Timbers side that countered off of those set-pieces, the score ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Colorado Rapids still sit at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference in 14th place having played 22 games and recorded 22 points. In their last two home games, the Rapids have acquired 4 points, having beaten FC Dallas and tied with Portland Timbers. They face off against Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, July 15th, hoping to get 7 out of 9 points at home in a span of a week.
Starting XI
The Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers had to resume the match with the original lineups that took the field a week prior. The only exception is that Marko Ilic, whose loan deal has expired, was replaced by Abraham Rodriquez as the backup goalkeeper.
The Rapids saw William Yarbrough in the net, now with Ilic out of the picture, a hard-fought battle between the two came down with Yarbrough on top most matches. A back five of Sam Nicholson, Danny Wilson, Andreas Maxso, Lalas Abubakar, and Keegan Rosenberry took the field. Before the start of the match, a halftime substitution by head coach Robin Fraser saw Braian Galvan on the field over Sam Nicholson. Bryan Acosta and Connor Ronan took part as the midfield pivot in the center of the park. Cole Bassett joined the midfielders in initiating the attacks and receiving the ball out wide to provide danger and service. Darren Yapi and Michael Barrios led the lineup up top with pace.
