The new Louisville expansion side was still in search of securing their first win after a positive participation in the Challenge Cup. Even though they couldn’t take the three-point win, they ended up sharing one point. This young team proved in their first regular season that they’re continuing on being a competitive team that’s full of potential at home with 6,622 fans in attendance. Head Coach Christy Holly has been consistent with his starting eleven, and many of the same names that we’ve seen made it in this match, except for Emina Ekic. Who was on the bench, for Katia McClure who made her first NWSL start. Post-game, Coach Holly said this about her “ We are exceptionally proud of her. Katie has a very good eye for goal, which, for this team, separates her a bit.” Formation-wise, the team appeared to be lined up in a 4-2-3-1 similar to what they had used in the previous two matches.

The Challenge Cup concluded with two of the best teams of the tournament facing off in Portland, Oregon. Gotham FC came into the final after solid defensive performances throughout the tournament. The rebrand was one of the key talking points for them coming into their first-ever championship final, regardless of the outcome, this was an important step for them as a new franchise. Portland Thorns FC came in as the more experienced side in terms of finals. The championship game would showcase two teams that were hungry for a championship. Especially because this final was going to be broadcasted on national television.
