Courage Concedes the Top of the Board to the Thorns at 1-0

In their first ever loss to the Portland Thorns at home, North Carolina conceded the spot at the top of the board to Portland. The game itself was one to watch, with possession going to Portland at most of the first half, while North Carolina became more dominant at the second.

After a hard-fought tie against OL Reign last week, Racing Louisville’s momentum was strongly present during the first 25 minutes of the match. During those minutes, Louisville enjoyed having the advantage offensively and defensively. On the offensive side CeCe Kizer and Emily Fox, who was not playing on her usual position constantly broke Orlando’s defense and made Orlando’s goalkeeper Erin McLeod dance around to save their strikes.

After this NWSL weekend, the Chicago Red Stars are sitting in 5th place in the standings with 25 points. Now back on a normal game schedule, Chicago is looking to get back into a groove. With 6 games remaining, there is no time to waste. They have to keep getting points in order to stay above the playoff line which is cutoff after six teams.

Coming into this match, Chicago had played 3 games in 13 days and had travelled to North Carolina and Louisville in the process. They have had to use some different lineups and account for injuries and rest as the end of the season is fast approaching.
