Austin FC Secures First Victory of 2023 Season with 1-0 Win Against Montreal.
In a closely contested match at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, Austin secured their first win of the 2023 season against Montreal, despite missing multiple chances throughout the game.
The game started off slowly, with both teams struggling to create any clear-cut chances. Austin dominated possession but failed to convert their possession into goals, with Diego Fagundez and Emiliano Rigoni missing multiple chances. At the half-hour mark, Gyasi Zardes thought he had put Austin ahead, but his goal was disallowed for offside, causing frustration among the fans.
Montreal had their own opportunities to take the lead, but Austin’s goalkeeper Brad Stuver was in fine form, making a crucial save to deny Romell Quioto just before half-time. The first half ended scoreless, with both teams looking for a breakthrough.
In the second half, Austin continued to push forward, with Argentine striker Maximilliano Urruti going close but hitting the post instead of the back of the net. However, Urruti redeemed himself in the 84th minute, scoring the winning goal with the help of John Gallagher’s assist, sending the home fans into a frenzy of excitement.
