In a remarkable display of dedication, Austin FC and LA Galaxy players, as well as their loyal fans, braved an unexpected hailstorm in Austin, Texas, last night to continue their match. The city experienced baseball-sized hail, causing a significant delay to the game, with kickoff initially scheduled for 8:30 p.m. However, due to the adverse weather conditions, the game didn’t commence until 10:30 p.m. Nevertheless, the resilient Austin FC fans remained committed, demonstrating their unwavering support for their team.
As the game finally got underway, some spectators may have questioned whether enduring the severe weather conditions was worth it, primarily when the final score between these two teams settled at a 3-3 tie. However, for many, the chance to see Diego Fagundez back in action was reason enough to brave the storm. Fagundez, a former Austin FC player, was recently traded to the LA Galaxy.
The first half of the game was nothing short of thrilling for Austin, with goals from Alex Ring and Ethan Finlay. LA Galaxy managed to pull one back with a goal by Riqui Puig. At halftime, with Austin leading 2-1, fans hoped their team would secure all three points.
However, the LA Galaxy came out with renewed determination in the second half. They managed to score two goals in the final minutes of the game, leaving the Austin FC supporters on the edge of their seats. Emiliano Rigoni contributed another goal for Austin, but the score was leveled at 3-3 when the final whistle blew.
With this draw, Austin FC earned just one point instead of the coveted three, raising questions about their playoff prospects. As the season progresses, the team and its fans will undoubtedly be hoping for more favorable weather and, more importantly, more victories on the pitch to secure their spot in the playoffs. The dedication of Austin FC’s fans, who stood by their team through thick and thin, serves as a testament to the passion and resilience of soccer enthusiasts in the heart of Texas.
