In the first game without the coach Farid Benstiti, who resigned hours before the match, Reign failed to score and reach the three points, suffering another defeat, this time a tough 2-0 against Houston Dash at BBVA Stadium – where 4,337 fans could watch a great performance from the home team and especially from Jane Campbell.
It was a very challenging game during the first half, with both teams trying to keep the ball. However, they did not create that much to break the tie. The Reign had the best chances with Bethany Balcer, Le Sommer, and Huerta, but the keeper Jane Campbell was there to save every single ball and keep a clean sheet.
In the second half, Reign had a big chance to take the lead with Huerta, but she missed the opportunity. Later on, in the minute 50th, the visitors’ defensive line saw Jasmyne Spencer break into the area to open the scoring for the Dash, 1-0.
The second and winning one came after a set-piece seven minutes later. With a good header, Katie Naughton doubled the lead, 2-0.
The final whistle confirmed that Reign will have to work a lot to improve to bounce back after another bad result. The team has only one victory in the last five games.
Trying to get back on track, OL Reign’s going home to play against Kansas City on July 11 at 7 PM ET. On the same day, Houston Dash will travel to face the Chicago Red Stars at 6 PM ET.
