Angel City Loses to Red Stars Angel City FC (2-3-4) 10th in NWSL, take on Chicago Red Stars (2-1-6) who is in 12th place on Monday night June 5th at the BMO stadium first half finished 2-0 with Red Stars in the lead both goals by #25 Ava, Cook first with the corner cross kick by teammate Julia Bianchi who lead to a very close range to the top right corner having Cook heading it in. Then the second in the 27th minute what could have been a slight distraction on the big screen after showing Sydney Leroux warming up the goal quickly followed.
Second half entering the field with the super substitutes, #3 Jasmine Spencer, and the youthful fast talented player, #21 Alyssa Thompson in the 57 minutes, and then #2 Sydney Leroux “They get along pretty good the encounters they’ve had the whole group tries to be a good example for the younger girls on the team.” Said a manager Freya Coombe the subs create as many opportunities but with no luck the mistakes on the field showed and in order to connect passes it was something they were working on.
ACFC in fact is missing players and it’s due to severe injuries, although Sydney Leroux did return to the field tonight it was only 20 minutes, signaling that she is not completely okay to play the full 90 as she returns to the field after her ankle injury. “ I know it wasn’t the result we were looking for but I’m happy I was able to come back and get a goal in, it proves to me that I can do those things and mentally helps me with my journey.” Goal scorer of the night Sydney Leroux added.

#10 Emile Claire the lonely right attacking forward of ACFC had lots to show Monday night nearly out of breath after every play and persistent to get at least trying to honor a goal for her team that never gave up, with frustration the team became gritty in 85 minute Captain #5 Riley Ali, receiving a yellow for a hard tackle, and then when everything seemed to be going wrong, in the 88th #2 Sydney, Leroux scores to with five minutes left on the clock the team and fans celebrated, and then with one minute remaining #9 Savannah, McCaskill just slightly over the net misses the shot that could have tied the game up 2-2.
Monday night’s score leaves ACFC in 11th in the league and with the hopeless opportunity to move into playoffs, but the team is fighting to come stronger changing up the lineup and initiating some substitutes and starters as they look forward. They will face Washington Spirit away, who is in 3rd place, coming off two ties, one against Racing Louisville and the other against Gotham FC in regular play.
